Crossing the Vltava
The Vltava River winds through Prague, spanned by nearly 20 bridges. The most famous is Charles Bridge, built in 1357 under King Charles IV. Others include the Legion Bridge, the Mánes Bridge, and the modern Barricades Bridge.
Each bridge tells a story of Prague’s architecture and history. Below is a selected list of noteworthy spans:
- Charles Bridge (Karlův most) – Gothic, pedestrian only.
- Legion Bridge (Most Legií) – Art Nouveau, tram tracks.
- Mánes Bridge (Mánesův most) – Functionalist, connects Old Town to Lesser Town.
- Railway Bridge (Železniční most) – Steel truss, opened 1901.
- Barricades Bridge (Most Barikádníků) – Post‑WWII reconstruction.
For a walking tour, start at the Old Town Bridge Tower and proceed to Malá Strana. Allow at least 90 minutes.
